there's nothing about mangos or purity. It's just a name..

O Fortuna - Latin and English lyics (Carmina Burana - Carl Orff)  Carl Orff - O Fortuna
Latin and English translation.

O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurate
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis
et inanis,
rota tu volubilis,
status malus,
vana salus
semper dissolubilis,
obumbrata
et velata
michi quoque niteris;
nunc per ludum
dorsum nudum
fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis
et virtutis
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite;
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite!
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable,
ever waxing
and waning;
hateful life
first oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice.

Fate - monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
you are malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game
I bring my bare back
to your villainy.

Fate is against me
in health
and virtue,
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate
strikes down the string man,
everyone weep with me!

Says: im pretty sure its not an overture to satan, it was written by latin monks in the 1300's...i mean, why would a monk try to worship satan??

Who: curious
When: August 30th, 2007
Says: Brother jim can you please elaborate on what you said?

Who: opinion
When: September 24th, 2007
Says: its not about satan. i would imgine it is monks who understood how men on earth have desires and weaknesses that will hinder them from ever staying on "top" and acheiving enlightment. the song is about the weakness and downfall of men. it is very well done, its extremely moving and inspiring. though, the lyrics don't support that as its says that because of fate life will end up doomed. I believe the message, as its from monks, (i imagine Christian) is to find a way to overcome, to understand your desires and weaknesses, and stay humble because the forces working are for more powerful than any man.

Says: O Fortuna is one of the most melodramatic songs ever made by any artist in any genre in any medium anywhere. No matter what you are doing, if O Fortuna is playing, it feels like you are doing something very important! LOL! Never mind that it seems to be a song about getting tazered for no good reason. And I dont mean melodramatic in a bad way, like I would if we were talking about Flight of the Valkyries, or Eye of the Tiger, or something like that. This song can beat up those songs.
